FAQS FOR GAP YEAR IN JAPAN

Can I travel when I don’t have class?

Absolutely yes!

During your gap year in Japan, you’ll have plenty of free time to travel and explore.

Whether it’s a weekend trip to Kyoto, a hike on Mount Fuji, or discovering hidden spots in Tokyo, getting out there is all part of the adventure and makes your gap year even more unforgettable.

If you decide to study in multiple countries then you’ve got even more to discover!

What is the best time to start my gap year in Japan?

You can start at any time of the year, depending on your schedule and travel plans.

Many students choose spring or autumn for the comfortable weather and seasonal events, but there’s always something exciting happening in Japan, no matter when you come.

Is accommodation provided?

Accommodation is optional and can be added during the booking process.

We offer homestays with local families and private studio apartments.

Both options are great, but we recommend staying with a host family to experience local life, practice the language every day, and enjoy amazing home-cooked food.

What kind of cultural activities are included?

We run a wide mix of activities, such as tea ceremonies, calligraphy workshops, trips to historic towns, and seasonal festivals.

These give you hands-on ways to connect with the local culture while practising the language in real-life settings.

All LTL schools offer similar programs for students outside of class, and events are run multiple times a week throughout Asia.

Will I make new friends?

No doubt about this one! LTL is one big family.

During your gap year in Japan, you’ll meet students from all over the world, many of whom stay friends for life after joining the LTL family.

With new people arriving and leaving every week, you’ll always have someone to hang out with, whether it’s studying together, socialising, or exploring the city.

When can I start?

That’s the beauty of our gap year programs in Asia.

Start dates are available all year-round on every Monday.

You can begin your program almost any week of the year, just let us know your preferred start date when applying, and we’ll take care of the rest.

How long are your gap year Japan programs?

It can be as long as you want. The Gap Year is flexible.

If you wish to study for 18 weeks, that still qualifies as a gap year with us! You can study at LTL for anything between a week and a year.

What languages can I study with LTL during my gap year?

At LTL, you can study Japanese, but also explore other languages like Mandarin, Vietnamese or Korean at our schools across Asia.

This is perfect if you want to expand your experience and make the most of your gap year in Japan.

Can I combine my studies with travel in other countries?

Yes! Many students pair their Japan program with study periods in other Asian countries like China, Vietnam or Korea.

This multi-country experience lets you learn more than one language and discover diverse cultures in a single trip.

TOP TIP || watch some of our videos at the top of this page to see students who’ve been there and done it with LTL.

Do I need to know some Japanese before coming?

No prior knowledge is required.

Our programs are designed for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners, so you’ll be placed in a class that suits your current ability.

You’ll be amazed how quickly you can progress once you’re here.

How big are the classes?

We keep our classes small, usually between 2 and 6 students.

This is so everyone gets plenty of personal attention and speaking time.

With this setup it’ll help you learn faster and feel more confident using Japanese every day.

Is the price displayed the final price?

The calculator shows the most accurate cost in the local currency of the country you’re booking for.

If you choose a different currency, the final total may change slightly depending on the exchange rate at the time of payment.

FOR EXAMPLE || If you search for programs just in Japan, then use JPY (Japanese Yen) to discover the real cost. Otherwise, speak to us.
